Salt and Ohio Tributaries

Salt River Basin Map

This site relates to Watershed Management Framework activities in the basin unit that includes the watersheds of the Salt River and nearby minor Ohio River tributaries (MORTs).

Basin Coordinator - Each basin unit has a basin coordinator.  In this basin unit, the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service provides one full-time basin coordinator supported with funds from the Kentucky Division of Water.

Focus Watershed Information - The focus watersheds are watersheds selected by the Watershed Steering Committee as areas for focused restoration and protection efforts and resources.

  • Background Information:  This link provides a summary of issues and information for this focus watershed.
  • Updates and status reports:  The links below are summaries of reports provided to the Watershed Steering Committee on status and other information related to activities in the focus watersheds.

Basin Status Report: State of the River: A report on the condition of the Salt River watershed, Kentucky, and the minor Ohio River tributaries in the area (November 1998) - This is the basin status report for the Salt River and nearby MORTs in Kentucky.  The status report, published in November 1998, was produced as part of Kentucky's Watershed Management Framework.

2004-2005 Strategic Monitoring Plan for Salt and Licking River Basins and Appendices A-D - This planning document also provides a standard set of water quality parameters and sampling regimes that were designed around land-use/cover types to allow maximum utilization of programmatic resources and best characterization of water quality resources.

Watershed Viewer - Links to a clickable basin map. More detailed information is revealed by "zooming" into the map (with the "magnifying glass"). "Identify HUC11" produces links, at the bottom of the map, to a table and narrative information about each subwatershed.

Priority Watersheds, 2002 - Describes the rationale behind the Salt River Basin Team's selection of priority watersheds in the unit's first Watershed Management Framework cycle.

Salt River Basin Management Plan - This document provides a watershed-by-watershed profile of the basin and documents the procedures and projects each program uses, but it also begins to provide geographic priority goals for the basin in greater detail.

2001 Salt River Basin Assessment Report - Introduction and overview of the Salt River Basin and minor Ohio River tributaries watershed.
